FORMER KIDS FROM MINNESOTA MAKE A BIG SPLASH AT NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL

This past Tuesday, The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival featured the World Premiere of “NWF Kids Pro Wrestling - The Untold Story” at The Village East Cinema in New York City. The film screening went over very well and had a great reception from all those that attended. The audience was a mix of local residents, movie producers, industry contacts and a few celebrities.

The two NWF creators Shawn Crossen and Chuck Lane were also on hand for the premiere. “We are very pleased with tonight's reaction,” said Crossen during an interview following the film. “Everyone I've talked with really enjoyed the film, and that is the key” said Crossen.

Actor Ben Curtis who met with Crossen and Lane after the screening said, “I was totally blown away by the story in this film.” Curtis, who was the famous actor for the Dell Computer commercials (Dude, you're gettin' a Dell) resides in New York and was compelled to see the film's premiere last Tuesday.

During their visit to New York, Crossen and Lane conducted interviews with IFC and MTV2 regarding the film and the story of “kids pro wrestling”. And several New York media sources will soon be featuring reviews of the film including The Lonely Pamphleteer Review, The New York Sport Scene, IFQ Magazine and more.

As far as industry contacts, Crossen and Lane met with Doris Casap, Senior Vice President of Film Programming at HBO. Casap, who handles several film acquisitions each year for HBO, showed great interest in the film. She will be taking a screening copy to HBO Documentaries, a division that handles specific projects such as this.

Crossen and Lane also spent time with Gregory Cascante, President/CEO at August Entertainment, which is one of the major film distributors in Hollywood. Cascante, who had to miss the screening due to other commitments outside the area, has taken a screening copy with him to review. Cascante has held several major positions over the years including Director of Acquisitions at HBO, Time-Life Films, and Time-Life Television.

“It was a very successful adventure” said Lane. “We take great pride in what we have accomplished both then, and now”. In addition to the Los Angeles Film Festival this spring, Crossen has plans on bringing the film to the Minneapolis & St. Paul International Film Festival in April as well. “These big city festivals are fun, but the chance to bring the film back home to Minnesota this spring would certainly mean a lot to us.” said Crossen.

For those who miss these festivals, the film is also out on DVD. In fact, just last week, Trans World Entertainment agreed to carry the DVD version of the film in all of their retail store locations throughout 46 states. Stores such as FYE (For Your Entertainment) and Saturday Matinee will soon have the DVD of the film on its shelves prior to the upcoming holiday season.
